e.l.f. Twitter Chat: KEY AW12 Beauty Trends - The Highlights

Last week we held our Friday e.l.f Chat where we discussed some of the seasons key trends! Here is the summary of the highlights of the session!

TOPIC: “KEY AW12 Beauty Trends which looks are you looking forward to and which ones will you be avoiding?”

TREND ONE: GRAPHITE EYELINER

Eyeliner has taken a new turn this season with sharp crisp lines in all kinds of weird and wonderful shapes and sizes! It most definitely wont be a look for the shy wall flower though! We asked you guys what you thought and here are some of the general feedback we got from you!

: I'm not too keen on it, I don't like the line on the inside of the eye. But the flick is nice at the edge

: I'd like to experiment a bit, instead of just a basic line and flick!

I love playing with eyeliner. All shapes & sizes :)

TREND TWO: COBALT BLUE EYES
Cobalt Blue eyes is big news this season but whilst it may look incredible on the catwalk. Some will love it, some wont!

We asked who's be braving this trend and heres what you guys had to say:

MT fab idea! : Cobalt blue eyes! How Interesting! Anyone be taking on this look come AW!

: already have & loved it!

: I have blue eyes - I think a bold deep blue eyeliner can work or electric blue mascara! Daring yet wearable :)

:Blue on blue for life! I think if you take the colour and go a little darker, almost navy it can look really strong

: I think it would encourage too many strange looks so not for me!

Not sure the colour would suit, but maybe worth a try to find out!

I love the colour, but not so much a fan of what they've done with the cobalt blue!

TREND THREE: BOLD BROWS
Bold, statement brows is another trend that may not be easily translated off the catwalk! However we are thinking more along the lines of natural brows than overgrown caterpillars!

Here's what you guys thought:

: I don't like really 'bushy' brows, but I like them to be well defined and frame the eyes nicely!

I'm an inbetweener when it comes to brows.

not that thick but i think they look better than thin ones :)

At least statement brows means we can cater more for our own natural shape rather than that uniform thin shape :)

So what you think guys? Would you ditch or don any of these looks? Let us know in the comment box below! :)

On Trend: e.l.f RED RED Lips with the Studio Matte Lip Colour in Rich Red

Red Lips are going to be the Beauty Trend to try out this Spring, we’ve already seen the stars sporting the scarlet pout at the Ocscars and the SS11 Runway shows were a parade of red lips from Anna Sui, Christian Dior, Jason Wu, Nicole Farhi and more!

We’re loving the versatility of the red lips this season, be it matte, gloss or velvet finish we want them all!

Here are some of our favourite inspired looks...

Anna Sui SS11/12 Blush Red Lips

Velvet finish lips at Erdem SS11/12

Gorgeous look from Jason Wu SS11/12

Gloss Finish at Temperley London

Crimson Reds at Yves Saint Laurent

Matte fuchsia at Nicole Farhi
We are so in love with the makeup seen at the Jason Wu shows, the bright, red lips against the played down face really adds to the wow factor. In fact it appears that minimal eyes and barely there make up is the best way to wear the Red Lips Trend this season! After all you don't want anything else to steal the lime light from your gorgeous pout!

Check out Amy's Oh so trendy look below...

e.l.f Cosmetics NYNY Challenge no. 5: On Trend Brows

Hi Guys!

Its time to reveal the 5th NYNY Challenge!

Eyebrows are one of the key trends for Spring/Summer 2012, and this season the common theme seems to be bigger the better!

One of the key beauty focuses during the Spring/Summer 11/12 Shows were eyebrows. Makeup artists put away their tweezers and allowed the models to don the fuller brow for this seasons hottest trend. Messy Brows (But not too messy) will be all the rage in the next few weeks! Hurrah!

Whats your take on this trend? will you be following suit? We would love to see your attempts regardless!

SO.. We hereby Challenge you all to ditch your tweezers and try out this trend! Show us your attempts by posting your photos to the e.l.f Facebook Page and let us all see you embracing this onward trend!

Hot off AW2012 London Fashion Week: elfs favourite Make Up Trends

With London Fashion week AW 2012 well underway, we’ll expect to see lots of Beauty trends rolling off the catwalk!

From Marc Jacobs RED RED Lips to Jason Wu’s winged green eyeshadow, the AW2012 shows has left us in awe and inspired!

However the elf girls were struck most by Anna Sui’s collection with their ‘Blue Eyed Beauties’ rocking the runway with vivid, bolts of lightening blue eyeshadow. The look is toned down with a soft dewy complexion and nude rosebud lips which is also tre on trend…

Anna Sui AW12/13 Catwalk Show at London Fashion Week
Anna Sui's bolt of blue eyeliner

After lots of oohing and ahhing we’ve tried to recreate this look using products from elf cosmetics range.

Check it out below:

 Products used for the look:

How we achieved the look:

Step one: Prep the eyes with a primer to create the perfect canvas for the eyeshadow to adhere to.

Step two: Wet the elf small angled brush with water and dip into the Studio Single Eyeshadow in ‘Seablue’. Starting from the outer corner of the eye line your eyes with the shadow. Make sure to wing out at the outer corners. For more dramatic effect, extend the liner to just under the brow bone.

Step three: Keep building the liner until you reached the desired thickness.

Step four: Now go over the eyeshadow again with Make up lock and seal, to help lock down the shadow for longer wear and intensify the blue

TIP: After wetting the angled brush with the lock and seal solution, dip it into the sea blue eyeshadow before going over your line for an even brighter, bolder look!

Step five: Curl your lashes and apply a coat of Mineral infused Mascara in Black for long and defined lashes.

Step 6: Apply a tinted moisturizer for a dewy complexion. The elf Tinted Moisturiser is hydrating and has SPF 15 for added sun protection, perfect for creating a radiant glow.

Step 7: Cheeks at the Anna Sui catwalk had a very faint, pink tone as to not work against the strong blue in the eyes. Recreate this soft and natural look with elf Studio Blush in Tickled Pink.

Step 8: Lips were kept to a bare minimum in a soft, nude finish. We used elf studio matte lip colour in Tea Rose to recreate the rosebud look. Before applying, prep the lip by exfoliating to get rid of any dryness and slick on a coat of lip balm to keep them hydrated.

Step 9: Line the lips carefully with the matte lip colour before filling in the rest for a more defined lip.

If you prefer a matte finish to a dewy complexion, finish by dusting a layer of elf translucent matte powder over the face using a large face brush like the elf total face brush.

That’s it guys, a high fashion look in a few easy steps!

Now if you’re not a fan of blue shadow or eye makeup, there is no rule to say you cant substitute with another colour! The only rule here is bolder the better! Why not try green or purples we have an extensive range of shadows in array of colours and finishes at elf cosmetics!

We hope you liked it!

Beauty on the go: Volume one - Shopping Spree

Hi guys! After our very successful 6togo promo last week we thought it would be a great idea to share with you 6 fantastic looks we created with this nifty Beauty on the go palette. We had lots of fun coming up with some new looks, the only problem was picking just 6 looks to share with you all! There are so many colours and combos- the possibilities are endless! But first up is the subtle make up look- perfect for a shopping spree with the girls.

The Shopping Look

We used Palette no. 6 in the collection for this look, the range of nude shades was perfect for creating a natural but polished look. Check out our attempt on Adele who kindly volunteered to be our model for this feature!

The Before look:

and after...

Colours used

Eyes:

Highlight: Swatch 1

Lid: Swatch 6

Corners: Swatch 10

Lips:
Swatch 12

Cheeks: Swatch 13

Recreate our Shopping Spree Look:

First apply your selected eye shadow as a base all over the lid, we used swatch no. 6, which is a subtle, bronze, colour with a hint of shimmer.

Next select a darker shade to contour the eyelid area and give definition to the eyes. We used swatch no. 10 which is a matte brown, perfect for contouring. Apply the eye shadow along the socket line blending it out to the outer corners of the eye.

To give your eyes extra pop, try using a light, natural colour to highlight the eyes. We used swatch no. 1 which is a delicate cream shade with a slight sheer undertone. Apply the highlight above the crease line, and blend up into the brown bone for a wide and bright, eyed look.

If you like you can then line your eyes with your favourite eyeliner for a more defined look. Then apply your usual mascara to complete your natural makeup eyes look.

Now you're almost done! Just finish with a sweep of bronze cheek colour over the apples of your cheeks with a large powder brush for a healthy and radiant glow and a slick of lipgloss, we used swatch 12, which is a lovely sheer, mauve shade which looks amazing with the eyeshadow!

We hope you liked this natural make up look! and we would love to know how you would use this palette? We would love hear your ideas- all comments welcome!
